Tech Access PA., Inc., is a non-profit, charitable corporation. Tech
Access was incorporated in Pennsylvania on October 13, 2004. The administrative
headquarters are housed in St. Paul's Evengelical Lutheran Church,
5900 North 5th Street, Philadelphia, PA. 19120.
Every day, thousands of computers and countless related components
are disgarded by businesses and individuals who are upgrading to newer
machines. In most cases the disgarded machines are perfectly useable,
sometimes with major repairs or upgrades, other times with little
or none.
At the other extreme, there are thousands of working families in
Pennsylvania living at or below the poverty line, for whom a personal
computer is an unaffordable luxury.
Tech Access connects used machines with deserving people, children
and families. We take in donations of used (or new) equipment, we
perform any needed repairs, add needed components, and then match
the refurbished machine to someone in need. The individual or business
donating the equipment receives a tax benefit for the value of the
equipment (we are a pending 501(3)(c) corporation) and the satisfaction
of knowing that their equipment is being put to good use, extending
the working life of the machine rather than adding bulk to some landfill.
Tech Access also provides free education for individuals and groups
in the use and maintenance of personal computers, as well as in the
productive use of the Internet.
We also offer volunteer opportunities for people who wish to learn
how to repair personal computers. This is another mutually beneficial
match - we need helping hands, the "helping hands" get a
free introduction, education and experience in repairing personal
computers. Many people who have worked in just such a volunteer capacity
have gone on to earn professional certifications such as the A+, which
is a highly sought-after credential that can lead to rewarding and
lucritive carreers.
