Tech Access is now offering Basic Computer Classes to the general
public in the Olney section of Philadelphia. Here are the particulars,
and a sign-up form:
1. What
Basic Computer is, as the name suggests, a beginner's Personal Computing
class. This class is intended for adults who have little or no experience
with a Personal Computer or with the internet. Our purpose is to help
you get on-line!
The course is divided into three units, with two classes for each
unit:
Unit 1 - Introduction to the Personal Computer
Unit 2 - Introduction to the Internet
Unit 3 - Introduction to Wireless Philadelphia
2. When
The Tech Access Basic Computer Class meets one day each week for
90 minutes, six consecutive weeks, for a total of 9 hours of instruction.
We offer both weekday and weekend (Tuesday and Saturday) classes to
accomodate both working folks and people who are at-home with children.
3. Where
Classes will be held in Tech Access, PA, Inc. computer lab located
inside of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 5900 N. 5th St., Philadelphia,
PA 19120.
4. Materials and Tools
Each student will have access to his or her individual computer station
which is hooked to the internet. Since we have 14 stations, each class
is limited to 14 people. The internet connection is high-speed broadband,
configured and made available through theWireless
Philadelphia Olney Pilot
Program.
Students will accumulate course materials which will be theirs to
take home and keep. The course of instruction will also be available
to studends on the web to accomodate individual study between classes.
Each student will receive a certificate of completion and a Wireless
Piladelphia T-shirt (while supplies last) at the end of the last class.
In addition to written materials, students will perform hands-on
work at their individual computer station and will view multi-media
presentations of course material via projected Power Point and Flash
presentations.
5. Additional Details:
For their own safety and for the safety of our equipment, as well
as consideration to other class members, NO CHILDREN WILL BE ALLOWED

6. Cost:
Tech Access Pa. is a non-profit corporation. The only cost for the
beginner's class is a one-time $8 registration
fee to help cover the cost of course materials.
7. Registration:
Registration is REQUIRED. Call Tech Access at 215-253-4606
to reserve your seat for the next class. You will be contacted when
we know the exact starting date of your class.
